The story of FIMAT begins in 1990, when a partnership with a Swiss cartonboard company — holder of the patent for cardboard trays with reinforced double edges — paved the way for a project that would soon become a benchmark in the industry.
Initially established as a commercial entity, FIMAT quickly evolved: through the acquisition of dedicated machinery, some custom-built, the company developed its industrial operations, in close collaboration with La Litografica di Filippo Fornaroli, the parent company and partner in producing printed die-cuts for tray forming.
At the same time, new German regulations aimed at reducing plastic prompted local retailers to require Italian suppliers to switch to cardboard packaging. In this context, FIMAT emerged as a sector leader, gaining advanced know-how in food-safe packaging and mastering different types of cardboard — from materials suitable for direct contact with fresh and fatty foods to those performing in traditional and microwave ovens.
Over time, the company expanded its offering beyond fresh produce, becoming a trusted partner for the retail sector and multiple food supply chains.
